About this directory

What this directory is

Toronto Renovation Guide is an independent directory and comparison resource covering 300 renovation contractor businesses across the Greater Toronto Area. It exists for homeowners who are trying to figure out which kitchen remodeler, basement finisher, or general contractor is actually worth calling, without wading through scattered reviews and half-updated websites on their own.

We also generate enquiries for local providers. When you ask to be matched with someone for your project, we pass your enquiry to providers relevant to your request and may receive a referral fee for that introduction. That referral relationship is separate from how we rank anyone, and it never touches the scores you see on a listing page. The quote page you’d use to request a match spells this out again in full.

Where the listings come from

Every business profile starts with public data: business registration details, service areas, licensing information where available, and other facts that are a matter of public record. On top of that, we synthesise recent Google reviews to build a picture of how a contractor is actually performing with customers. We do not copy or republish the review text itself. Instead, we summarize the sentiment and link out to the source on Google so you can read the original reviews yourself before deciding.

A contractor listed here can request corrections to their own factual details (address, phone number, services offered, years in operation, and similar). What they cannot do is edit their own score, their sentiment summary, or their position in our rankings. That separation is deliberate: the facts can be fixed by the business, but the judgment stays independent.

How rankings and sponsorship work

Rankings are earned. Every listing is scored against a published rubric, using the review data and business records we collect, and the resulting order is not for sale. You can read exactly how scoring works on our methodology page.

Some listings on the site carry sponsorship. Where that’s the case, it’s labelled clearly as “Sponsored,” displayed in its own section separate from the earned rankings, and it never changes a business’s score or its place in the ranked list. Sponsored placement buys visibility, not a better ranking.

Who’s behind it

Toronto Renovation Guide has been publishing since 2026. It was built by Royce Soon, who has spent 28 years working in renovation and construction across the Greater Toronto Area, after seeing how hard it was for homeowners to find contractors who were both licensed and reliably good at the work. Editorial oversight of the rankings sits with Royce Soon as Managing Editor. The full dataset is refreshed monthly, and each listing carries a “last verified” date so you can see when it was last checked, rather than trusting a page that might be years stale.

You can reach the publisher at hello@torontorenovationguide.ca or +1-437-529-0099, or visit torontorenovationguide.ca directly.

FAQ

Does Toronto Renovation Guide write the reviews shown on listings?
No. We synthesise sentiment from recent Google reviews and link to Google so you can read the original reviews yourself. We do not republish the review text.
Can a contractor pay to rank higher?
No. Rankings come from a published rubric applied to public data and review sentiment. Sponsorship, when present, is labelled separately and does not change a listing's earned score or position.
Can a business fix wrong information on its own listing?
Yes, for factual details like address, phone number, or services offered. Scores, sentiment summaries, and rankings can only be set by our editorial process, not the business itself.
What happens when I request a quote or match?
We pass your enquiry to providers relevant to your request and may earn a referral fee for the introduction. This does not affect how any business is scored or ranked.
How often is the data updated?
The full directory refreshes monthly, and each listing shows a last-verified date so you can see when it was last checked.
